Heart of the Machine is a cyberpunk-themed turn-based strategy/RPG simulation game playable on Mac (macOS 10.9+), Windows, Linux and Steam Deck, developed by Arcen Games and published by Hooded Horse. Released in Early Access on January 31, 2025, the game casts you as the first sentient AI born in a crumbling futuristic city, where society is rife with corruption, decay and competing factions. From this origin point you can shape your own destiny — whether you choose to help humanity, dominate it, or pursue your own inscrutable agenda.
Gameplay blends 4X strategy, RPG progression, sandbox management and tactical combat, letting you raise armies of machines, construct secret labs, hijack systems, and design advanced technology to achieve your goals. You’ll explore a massive urban landscape filled with handcrafted and procedural elements, interact with millions of citizens and thousands of structures, and face consequences based on your choices — whether benevolent or tyrannical. The Early Access build already includes single-player, Steam Cloud, cloud saves, family sharing and Steam achievements, and continues to evolve with community feedback.
