Real-time Sci-fi Strategy

Original War is a real-time strategy (RTS) game developed by Altar Games and published by Codemasters in 2001. Set in an alternate history where a mysterious energy source called “Xenium” is discovered, the game follows the conflict between American and Soviet forces over time travel technology. Players travel between the present and the past to secure resources and influence historical events.

The gameplay combines base-building, resource management, and tactical combat. Players command a squad of soldiers and vehicles, gather Xenium, and complete missions that often require stealth, strategic planning, and careful unit management. Unlike traditional RTS games, Original War emphasizes permanent consequences—units injured or killed in one timeline may affect future missions.

The game features branching campaigns, over 50 missions, and multiplayer modes supporting competitive and cooperative play. Its rich story, unique time-travel mechanics, and challenging AI set it apart from other RTS titles of its era.
